Violent armed robber nabbed by Merced Police
A suspect in a pair of violent home burglaries was arrested last Tuesday in a residential area on the 100 block of West 18th Street in Merced. When the suspect refused to come out of the residence, the Merced Police Department SWAT Team was activated. But the suspect surrendered to officers on the scene before they could be deployed, and he was taken into custody without injury.
The suspect, 26-year-old Albert Campos, robbed two separate residences in the downtown area of Merced with an accomplice in May of this year. Campos and a 17-year-old juvenile male pistol whipped their victim in the first robbery and held an elderly person at knife point in their second. The juvenile was apprehended on June 2nd, but Campos eluded arrest when detectives tried to make contact with him in Winton on a later date.
“Before the detectives could get other officers in position Campos fled,” said Merced PD Lt. Tom Trindad “The detectives chased him but lost sight of him in the residential neighborhood.”
In addition to the two home burglaries, Campos was also arrested for three other residential robberies in the Merced County area. He was later booked at Merced County Jail for multiple felonies.
Police asked that anyone with more information about the Campos’ activities should call the department’s tip line at 209-385-4725 or text anonymous tips to TIP411 and use the word ComVIP as the text message keyword.
