Dead Body Found in Parlier Turns Into Homicide Investigation
PARLIER – The Fresno Sheriff’s Office is investigating what happened to a bloodied, dead body found in the Parlier countryside yesterday afternoon.
Around 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, a farmer found a man covered in a lot of blood lying in the middle of the road on Floral Avenue near Newmark Avenue. The farmer called 9-1-1 and paramedics who arrived a few minutes later pronounced the man dead on the scene.
Deputies with the sheriff’s department blocked off the road and spent the afternoon investigating the scene and looking for any evidence. Although they don’t yet know what happened to the victim, deputies did say they found several shell casings near his body. At this point in the investigation, the sheriff’s office believes the man was murdered and has its homicide unit trying to determine how and why the man was killed.
Deputies had little information to release other than the man was a Hispanic adult with some tattoos.
“It’s unknown if this is gang related,” said Sgt. Joe Smith with the sheriff’s office.
A few minutes after the body was found, a call came in about a shooting a short distance away, northwest of Parlier. Authorities say it is too early to know if the two crimes are related.
Anyone with information about this investigation is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at (559) 488-3939.
