Two Women Shot Outside Their Home in Central Fresno
FRESNO – Two women were shot with a shotgun on Wednesday night and police believe they have the suspect in custody.
Officers from the Fresno Police Department were called to the scene at Vassar and Glenn avenues around 7:30 p.m. and found two women suffering serious wounds after being shot by a shotgun. One of the women was shot in the face and the other woman was shot in the back by a male suspect, authorities said.
“It appears there was a disturbance earlier in the day which led to this particular shooting,” said Lt. Mike Doyle with the Fresno Police Department.
The women were transferred to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno where one is listed in critical condition and the other is listed in stable condition. One of the women was able to provide a statement to police on the way to the hospital.
Police recovered a sawed-off shotgun near the scene near Fresno City College that may have been used in the shooting.
Witnesses helped police by pointing out who was involved in the group that was in the altercation earlier in the day as well as during the shooting. Police detained several suspects, one of whom they believe is the shooter. Police have not revealed his name or his relationship to the women.
Police are still trying to determine if the disturbance earlier in the day and the shooting are gang related.
