Vallejo police shoot dog after boy and mother are attacked

A pit bull was shot and killed by Vallejo police Tuesday, after it attacked a 5-year-old boy and his mother.

According to the Vallejo Times Herald, officers were dispatched at around 9:20 p.m. to the 200 block of Avian Drive in response to a call of a possible dog bite.

The pit bull attack occurred in this Vallejo neighborhood

When officers arrived, they found a 22-year-old woman talking with paramedics. The woman told officers that she was with her son in a parking lot on Avian drive when they saw a man pass by while walking his pit bull, police said. The dog slipped out of his collar and bit the woman’s son. The mother, who was attempting to protect her son, was also bit in the incident. The woman and her child were both taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center where they were treated for minor injuries.

According to the Vallejo Times Herald, the man and dog were both gone from the scene when they arrived, but officers later saw the full-grown pit bull on Colombus Parkway. An officer and an animal patrol officer tried to take the dog, but the pit bull attempted to attack the two. The dog continued to try to attack after the officer tried to use his Taser on the dog. The officer then drew his gun and shot the dog, police said.
