The man jumps through a window, the woman grabs a sword…
A Modesto home invasion robbery that seemed more like a scene out of a movie than a conventional crime ended anticlimactically when two suspects were arrested at a routine traffic stop in the early morning hours of August 9th.
Patrick Ware and Donte Brooks were a part of a group of at least four suspects who invaded a home on the 400 Block of Granger Street. A male and female victim were first awakened by a loud bang on the door. When the man got up to investigate, he saw the suspects armed with handguns trying to break down the door.
The male victim ran back into the bedroom and dove through a closed window, shattering the window and making his escape. He was able to run to a nearby neighbor and call 911.
The female victim remained in the house and armed herself with a sword. She attempted to challenge the suspects, but was promptly overpowered and disarmed. A suspect struck her with his gun and held her down while the others ransacked the home and stole money, jewelry, and other miscellaneous property.
The suspects fled on foot before authorities could arrive. The female victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the assault.
It was less than an hour later when a patrol office looking for possible drunk drivers observed an Oldsmobile violating multiple traffic laws and stopped it at the corner of Needham Street and L Street. In the vehicle were Ware and Brooks, and once the officer realized that they matched the suspects’ physical descriptions given by the victims, he arrested them.
25-year-old Patrick Ware of Stockton and 21-year-old Donte Brooks of Oakdale were both charged with residential robbery. Ware received an additional charge of parole violations. Both were booked in Stanislaus County Jail. Investigators are still looking for the other suspects involved.
