Attempted murder suspect arrested
San Luis Obispo Police officers have a man in custody for attempted murder after he attacked another man Tuesday afternoon.
According to SLOPD, officers responded to an assault that occurred in the 100 block of Suburban Avenue around 4 p.m. Police say the victim, Jose Martinon, was leaving his place of employment when he was confronted by the suspect, Juan Montero, 47, who was known to him.
The suspect made threatening statements toward the victim and engaged him in a physical confrontation. Police say the suspect presented a sharp edged object and began attacking the victim.
According to SLOPD, the victim, with the help of witnesses, was able to fend off the suspect and received superficial injuries as a result of the attack. The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle.
Officers say they conducted a follow-up and were able to make a positive identification of the suspect who was located and arrested without incident on Wednesday morning in Oceano.
Montero was transported to the San Luis Obispo County Jail where he was booked for assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $25,000.
