Popular Rocklin teacher arrested for molestation
Rocklin Police have arrested Whitney High School physics teacher Matthew Scott Yamamoto, a 33-year-old Rocklin resident, on charges of child molestation and arranging to meet a minor for purposes of committing a lewd act.
According to a Rocklin Police press release, they had received information Saturday about an intimate relationship between Yamamoto and a 17-year-old female student at Whitney High. Their investigation prompted a search warrant, which was served at his home this morning, and resulted in his arrest.
Yamamoto is originally from Santa Rosa, and completed his education at UC Davis, studying engineering, and received his masters degree in education in 2007. According to “Whitney Update” – the high school’s news website run by its Advanced Journalism classes, Yamamoto is a popular teacher who was set to be honored as the Rocklin Unified School District’s Teacher of the Year.
Rocklin Police are continuing their investigation, and are concerned that there may be other victims. Anyone with information about this or any other possible incidents are urged to contact the Rocklin Police. Yamamoto was booked into the Placer County jail and is being held on $100,000 bail.
