Another Murder-Suicide in California

ALTURAS – For at least the third time in recent days a California man shot and killed his companion before ending his own life.  Police say Jim Sims III, 53, of Alturas, shot his wife Marilyn, 51, as well as a 14-year-old juvenile  later identified as their son.

Officers received a call at about 5:45 PM on Thursday and responded to a home on the 1200 block of East Ninth Street.  They spotted Jim Sims leaving the home in a vehicle and followed him to a church parking lot on West Carlos Street.  Sims exited the vehicle and shot himself.  He later died at a Redding hospital.

Police found Mrs. Sims in the home.  She later died at Modoc Medical Center.  The young boy is expected to survive.
