Juvenile threatens parents with shotgun
MODESTO – A 16-year-old male juvenile is in custody after threatening to kill his father with a shotgun on September 17th.
The incident began during the early morning hours at a residence at the 2400 block of Southfork Lane when the juvenile retrieved his father’s shotgun with the apparent intent of shooting and killing him. The suspect loaded the shotgun with stolen ammunition and waited for his opportunity as his parents slept.
The juvenile’s mother was the first to become aware of the situation when she was awoken by noises from her son’s preparations in the living room. As soon as she entered the living room, she started to scream as she saw him with the shotgun.
This woke up the boy’s father, who joined them in the living room. Upon his father’s arrival, the suspect pointed the shotgun directly at his father and threatened to kill him. The suspect’s father immediately began to talk his son out of shooting, and was able to disarm the teen and restrain him until police arrived.
Preliminary investigations into the suspect’s motives revealed that the teen had premeditated his murder plot and had been gathering the items needed to carry it out. It was also learned that the juvenile had a history of substance abuse. Police arrested the teen for attempted murder and making terrorist threats. He was booked into the Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall.
Modesto Police Department PIO Lt. Rick Armendariz could not be reached for comment.
