September 23 – Santa Barbara
While local neighborhood parties raged throughout Santa Barbara’s August Fiesta weekend, just out of sight of the official civic celebrations, parades, and music events, a 41-year-old local woman became the victim of a sexual assault.
According to Santa Barbara Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Riley Harwood, the alleged victim—admittedly intoxicated from fully participating in the local festivities—was waiting in an eastside Santa Barbara neighborhood parking lot adjacent to the apartment of a friend where she was planning to spend the remainder of the evening.
“While she was waiting for her friend to return home,” Harwood reported to the media, “she was approached by four men,” who asked her to join them in another parking lot. When she refused, two of the four men reportedly sexually assaulted her.
The victim’s subsequent 911 Emergency call brought the arrival of patrol officers who recovered various items of evidence, and determined that the area was under the surveillance of multiple security cameras. “Videos were recovered depicting the suspects and the incident itself,” Harwood said.
A 6-week investigation ensued, followed by the issuance of search warrants for two Lompoc area residents, Jose Luis Castillo, 24, and Daniel Ordonez, Jr., 20. On September 19th, both suspects were contacted at their residences and taken into custody. Castillo was arrested and booked on attempted rape, while Ordonez was booked on a charge of forced oral copulation. Both men are currently held in Santa Barbara County Jail with bail set at $100,000 each.
