Visalia Couple Arrested on Gun and Drug Charges
VISALIA – Police arrested a man and woman this week after a gun went off from their moving vehicle.
Officers were in the area of Jefferson Park in the 700 block of South Watson Street around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday looking for a juvenile who had been reported to be out of control when they heard gun shots in the area. The officers saw a vehicle leave the scene just after the shots went off.
The officers got into their patrol vehicle and sped to catch up to the vehicle. They were able to stop it a couple of blocks away. Officers discovered a man and woman inside. A search of the vehicle revealed a handgun, spent shell casings, and approximately one ounce of methamphetamine.
Officers did a search of the area to see if any bullets hit homes in the area, but they didn’t find anything.
Officers arrested 27-year-old Elisha Sanchez and booked him on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm, being a felon in charge of a handgun, and gang enhancements. Michelle Sandoval, 35, was placed under arrest on charges of suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and transportation of methamphetamine. She was booked into the Bob Wiley Women’s facility.
Police say the area of Jefferson Park attracts trouble and officers are frequently called to the area. Just two hours before Tuesday’s incident, officers had responded to Jefferson Park on reports of drug use in the park.
