Man Arrested for Arranging Tryst with Minor
ROSEVILLE – On Tuesday detectives from the Roseville Police Department traveled to Lake County to arrest a man accused of trying to arrange a meeting with a minor in Roseville for sexual acts.
Three weeks ago the parents of the boy contacted Roseville police concerning a man who they said drove from Lake County to meet their son for an arranged meeting. After finding text messages on their son’s phone, they intercepted the man at a local hotel and confronted the suspect. The man drove away and the parents then contacted the police.
Further investigations revealed that the boy had met the man online in January. Their communications continued thereafter in text messages. Based on this information, detectives made the trip to Lake county and enlisted the support of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
They arrested Robert George Schmidt, 33, of Lakeport. He was charged with meeting with a minor for sexual acts. He was booked into the Placer County Jail on a $400,000 bail.
