CHP Officer, Suspect Wounded after Exchanging Gunfire

A California Highway patrolman was wounded after he exchanged gunfire with a fleeing suspect.

According to the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle travelling on northbound Highway 101 northbound just south of the North Spring Street exit of Paso Robles on Saturday about 5:30 a.m.

According to the SLO Sheriff’s Department, the suspect vehicle had a traffic collision at 13th Street/Spring Street and the driver fled on foot.

Officers say they pursued the suspect on foot and gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and a CHP officer at 14th Street/Park Street. Both the officer and suspect sustained gunshot wounds and were treated at the hospital for their injuries.

The suspect, Clifford Albert Scott Jr., 22, of San Diego was booked at San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder. Scott was under guard at a local unnamed hospital.

The name of the wounded CHP officer has not been released nor has his condition been released to the press.
