Arrest made in Skihi Clothing party beating

Santa Ana police have announced an arrest in the severe beating of a 20-year-old who attended a late night party at Skyhi Clothing in Santa Ana.

In a press release, Santa Ana police confirmed that detectives from the Homicide division have arrested 21-year-old Alfonso Calderon at his girlfriend’s residence in Huntington Beach early Thursday morning. The identification of Calderon as a suspect was based on numerous tips received by Orange County Crime Stoppers.

The beating occurred on early Sunday, September 30th, at a Saturday night customer appreciation party thrown by Skyhi Clothing Co. in Santa Ana. Skihi clothing specializes in “Streetwear” clothes to “Elevate Your Life.”  Ted Currie, 20 of Huntington Beach, was in attendance at the party, and according to media reports, was helping a friend to deejay the event. Police had been called to the party due to the loud music at the late hour, and proceeded to shut the party down.

After police had left, Currie got into an argument with at least two other people. As the argument escalated, Currie was punched in the face several times, and was knocked out, falling to the ground and striking his head in the fall. The others continued to assault him as he lay unconscious before fleeing the scene. Currie was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana where he was treated for bleeding in the brain and multiple fractures in his skull. He remained in a coma for two weeks, and though he is now out of the coma, he is suffering was is likely to be permanent brain damage.

Skihi calls their location in this South Orange business park the "Bird Cage". It was outside this location that the beating occurred.

Calderon is currently booked into Santa Ana police department jail, and charged with Assault with a deadly weapon, his bail set at $25,000.
