Homicide Case Suspect Arrested
Homicide detectives from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting death of one man and wounding of another at an apartment complex in the Arden Arcade area, according to an official press release.
Shortly after 3pm on Saturday, November 3, 2012, detectives reportedly arrested Donnell DeShawn Stean, 30, who was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on one charge of murder and one charge of assault with a deadly weapon, and is ineligible for bail at this time.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, just after 1:30 am on November 3, Sheriff’s deputies responded to The Pointe apartments in the 1600 block of Bell Street, regarding reports of shots fired. Upon their arrival, deputies reportedly located two men who had both sustained gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. Rickey Howard, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other 18-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.
Detectives reportedly conducted interviews with people who were at the apartment when the incident occurred, and recovered evidence from the scene. This further investigation led to the identity of Stean as the person responsible for shooting both victims. Investigators believe Stean was involved in a physical altercation with the two men, both acquaintances of his, and that the altercation led to Stean producing a handgun and shooting both victims.
The Sheriff’s Department does not believe there are any outstanding suspects in connection to this incident, however, the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information pertinent to this crime is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (916) 874-5115.
