Teen Arrested for Father’s Murder
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department have arrested an 18-year-old for the shooting death of his father, according to an official press release.
Daniel Cartwright, 18, was reportedly booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on a single charge of murder, and is being held without bail.
According to the release, at 10:40 am on Tuesday, November 6, Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Monte Bello apartments on the 4000 block of South Watt Avenue. A male caller stated that he had shot his father, who was unresponsive inside the apartment.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies were reportedly approached in the parking lot of the complex by Cartwright, who identified himself as the caller, and was detained without further incident.
Deputies were reportedly directed to an upstairs apartment where they found a 40 year-old male with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Paramedics who responded to the location pronounced the victim deceased. A handgun was recovered inside the apartment, which is believed to be the weapon used in this incident. Cartwright was taken to a Sheriff’s facility to be interviewed by detectives, and later transported to the jail.
According to the Sheriff’s department, preliminary investigation suggests the shooting took place several hours before the suspect called the Sheriff’s Department. The reason for this delay, as well as the motive for this crime, remains unknown at this time.
Anyone having information pertinent to this investigation is asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (916) 874-5115.
