Can’t We Just Enjoy the Nice Ride?
Ventura County – Driving around in broad daylight, blissfully enjoying the sights and sounds of the Santa Clara River Valley environs and making their way through beautiful downtown Fillmore, Johnny Moreno and David Burgin were drinking beer and smoking marijuana…and apparently making very little effort to disguise their casual activity.
Observing this, an anonymous area citizen alerted Fillmore Police and, according to Ventura County Sheriff Media Relations Officer Cpt. Don Aguilar, officers responded to the 700 block of Island View Street. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies witnessed two men doing exactly what the citizen report indicated: drinking beer and smoking pot, apparently oblivious to the concerns of those outside their vehicle.
“A routine traffic stop was conducted,” according to Aguilar’s report to the media, and a search of the vehicle ensued which revealed that Moreno, 29, and Burgin, 26, were in possession of twelve pounds of processed marijuana…some of which they were actively smoking, which may explain the facial expressions displayed in their booking photos.
Both Moreno and Burgin were arrested at the scene and subsequently transported to Ventura County Jail where they were booked on charges of conspiracy to sell controlled substance, possession for sale of marijuana, and transportation of marijuana.
Both suspects remain in custody with bail set at $20,000 each.
