Police Dog Gets His Man
Oxnard – Drivers cruising the streets of Oxnard at the midnight hour should probably come to a full stop at intersections marked with stop signs. But just after midnight on November 11th, Francisco Javier Dominguez, 25, performed the common “California rolling stop” at the corner of Hemlock and Ukiah streets. According to an unidentified Oxnard Police Department spokesman, patrol officers observed this sloppy vehicular moment, and “they proceeded to make an ordinary traffic stop.”

But Dominguez failed to yield to the marked patrol car with its spinning red lights ablaze, and, as detailed in the department’s report to the media, “he accelerated away from the officers.” With light traffic throughout the city at that late hour, Dominguez apparently hoped to take advantage of the wide boulevards and made every effort to flee, “driving at speeds in excess of 55 miles per hour”, the media information detailed.

Dominguez was moving quickly down Channel Islands Boulevard…until he wasn’t. When pursuing police units finally caught up with him, “his vehicle had crashed into a residential street light pole.” Undaunted by his questionable ability to control a motor vehicle, Dominguez quickly set out on foot to further elude officers.
Apparently, however, Oxnard Police have little patience for running through the dark, and “a K-9 unit was deployed,” as tersely described by the official report. In matter-of-fact terms, Dominguez was no match for a German Shepherd eager to fulfill his duty, and “the suspect was brought to the ground,” according to the report.
Investigation at the scene revealed that Dominguez was wanted on a felony parole violation pursuant to a prior conviction for lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age, which—after he was taken to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment of injuries resulting from dog bites–earned him a trip to Ventura County Jail where he was booked on the felony arrest warrant, as well as new charges of failing to yield to officers.
