Weapons, drugs, throwing star, Molotov cocktail…he had it all
Benicia – On December 10 Ryan Estrella, a 26 year old Benicia resident, was arrested and booked into Solano County Jail for charges including DUI, misdemeanor probation violation, felony possession of marijuana and other controlled substances, misdemeanor possession of an opium pipe, and even a “throwing star” and Molotov cocktail.
At a little after midnight on December 10, Benicia Police Corporal Gregg Rouse located Mr. Estrella walking around the parking lot of the Solano Square shopping center. On returning to his vehicle he was approached by police but unable to provide a valid reason for being in the area at a time when all the center’s businesses were closed.
Benicia PD K-9 Officer Kirk Keffer had his narcotics-trained police service dog, K-9 Bak, perform an exterior vehicle sniff. Bak gave a positive alert and the vehicle was searched. Located in the vehicle were a small amount of suspected methamphetamine, a billy club, two unloaded firearms (a 22 caliber rifle and a 22 caliber handgun), a small amount of gun powder, a suspected Molotov Cocktail containing an unknown chemical, and an illegal martial arts weapon known as a throwing star. On his arrest, Estrella was also found to also possess a glass narcotic pipe.
The afternoon of December 10 a warrant was issued regarding the suspected Molotov Cocktail or Improvised Incendiary Device. At approximately 6:00 p.m. of the same day a search was conducted of Mr. Estrella’s residence, in the 500 block of Cooper Drive in Benicia. No further devices were located. The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms will be processing the contents of the device located in Mr. Estrella’s vehicle. Further charges could be filed.
