Ear Gauge stalker surrenders to police
A Sylmar sexual predator dubbed the “Ear Gauge Stalker” by local authorities was arrested December 14th according to a press release. 20-year-old Kevion Ray Hunt was arrested at the San Fernando Police Station after Hunt’s mother urged him to turn himself in.
The “Ear Gauge Stalker,” so named because of his large earlobe gauges, was wanted by the LAPD since he assaulted two separate women in the early morning hours of December 9th.
“The good news is, neither woman was physically harmed in either case,” said Lt. Paul Vernon, head of the Mission Detective Division. “But these were two bold, public encounters within the same complex and within one hour’s time.”
The first encounter occurred at 2:40 area when Hunt approached a woman in her late 30’s who was pushing her child in a stroller near her apartment complex in the area of 12960 Dronfield Avenue. Hunt initiated small talk between himself and the victim before forcing his hand under her dress.
Hunt ran away from the scene after the victim started screaming, but that didn’t deter him from assaulting another woman later that morning. Approaching a separate woman in the same area about an hour after the first incident, Hunt again engaged before getting “bolder.”
“He grabbed her and through a combination of carrying and dragging, he moved her 60 feet to a dark, secluded area, and started to remove her clothing,” said Lt. Vernon.
The victim’s screaming attracted two passersby who intervened and scared away Hunt. Even though the police were called after the second incident, detectives didn’t learn of the first encounter until the next day. Both women were Hispanic and lived in the same complex, though separately.
After a description was given and a composite sketch circulated, neighbors told officers that Hunt frequented the victims’ complex and lived in a nearby apartment with his parents on Beaver Street. According to LAPD Detective Mike Brox, head of the sexual assault unit, officers identified Hunt after comparing the composite with a DMV photo.
“[It] couldn’t have been a better match,” said Detective Brox.
Detectives were readying the arrest warrant when they got the call that Hunt had turned himself in.
“Funny thing was, detectives had not yet approached nor spoken to Hunt about the case,” Detective Brox said.
At the San Fernando Police Station, Hunt and his mother walked into the lobby with the intention of cooperating with investigators. After his arrest, Hunt was transported to the Van Nuys Jail, where he was booked for attempted rape. His bail was set at $100,000.
