No Break in Crime in Fresno for the Holidays
FRESNO – The merriness of the Christmas season didn’t stop crime from occuring, as Fresno saw violence and burglaries persist even during the holidays.
On Christmas Eve, things turned violent for one family when a son stabbed his father with a large butcher knife. Police arrested 23-year-old Louie Seja Jr. for stabbing his father, 48-year-old Louie Seja Sr., in the 3600 block of East Iowa Avenue on Monday evening. Louie Seja Sr. was stabbed in the face and upper body. He is being treated at Community Regional Medical Center and is expected to recover from his injuries.
Officers arriving at the scene around 8:40 p.m. were confronted by Seja Jr. rushing out of his house yelling. Officers were able to arrest him without incident for assault with a deadly weapon. He also is accused of making threats in the presence of the officers to kill his mother when he got out of jail, authorities said.
In another incident on Christmas Eve, two people were shot in southeast Fresno. Officers responded to the 600 block of South Woodrow Avenue around 10:10 p.m., where they found 24-year-old Melvin Whitehead with a gunshot wound to his to his leg and 25-year-old Deondre Flores with a gunshot wound to his arm.
Whitehead and Flores said they were standing in the road when two male suspects started shooting at them. The victims hid in the yard of a nearby apartment until police showed up. They were taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
A third incident happened on Christmas morning when three men carjacked a woman on Barstow Avenue near 9th Street. She told authorities that three suspects came up to her with a gun and took her car and cell phone. Police were able to track down the stolen car and arrest 18-year-old Christian Ardondo and two minors.
Another Christmas morning incident was the result of too much alcohol and family rivalries, authorities said. It took more than a dozen Fresno police officers to stop a family brawl that left three people stabbed or cut with sharp objects in the 4700 block of East McKinley Avenue. None of the victims sustained life-threatening wounds.
