3 Arrested for Escort-Service Robberies, Police Seek More Victims
CLOVIS – Police arrested three people who in the last two months lured their victims using escort service websites and then robbed them at gunpoint.
Clovis police arrested two 19-year-old suspects, Javontae Johnson and Bobby Peele, and booked them into the Fresno County Jail. Police also arrested their 17-year-old female accomplice, who is now at the Fresno County Juvenile Justice Center.
Police say the suspects posted provocative online ads on classifieds.myredbook.com and backpage.com, two adult-oriented websites. Both the sites have Fresno and Clovis sections. The 17-year-old suspect spoke to potential “customers” on the phone and lured them to the Briarwood apartment complex on Alamos and Villa avenues in Clovis. Once the victims got there, they were robbed at gunpoint.
Police say they are looking into at least seven cases of these set-up robberies. The suspects robbed the victims of cell phones, money, and whatever else they had on them. Some of these items were found at the apartment where the arrests were made.
Clovis police are now looking for more people who may have been robbed by the three suspects during this operation. They urge anyone who has been robbed to come forward, especially because there is still unclaimed property that was found at the scene of the crime.
The two 19-year-old suspects are facing armed robbery charges and are being held on $605,000 bail.
