Suspect in San Diego Homicide Case Arrested in Portland
San Diego- A man suspected of killing a 30-year-old woman in San Diego was arrested this past Saturday by the Portland Police Bureau. The suspect, 32-year-old Casey Michael Tschida, was arrested in Portland’s Clackamas County on a fugitive warrant with a homicide charge and is being held without bail.
Tschida was out late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning with the victim, Jennifer Rene Krajnak. The two were acquaintances and were socializing at a local bar. Krajnak left the bar early Thursday morning and was walking to a friend’s house where she was staying when Tschida approached her. According to San Diego Sheriff’s Homicide Lieutenant Glenn Giannantonio, “Tschida shot her once in the head and left her lying in the street.”
Nearby deputies on patrol spotted Krajnak lying between parked cars on the road. When police arrived at the scene, Krajnak was conscious; she was later transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital where she was pronounced dead half an hour later.
Giannantonio stated that after the shooting, Tschida drove his truck to his mother’s home in Happy Valley, Oregon. Tschida was later located at a Veterans Medical Center in Portland where officers took him into custody. Giannantonio also said a motive for the murder is not clear.
Both County Sheriff’s Offices of San Diego and Clackamas County are working together to complete the investigation as well as bringing Tschida back to Southern California.
Officials are asking anyone with information about Krajnak’s murder to call their Homicide Unit at (858) 974-2321 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
