School Locks Down After Gunshot Report
Bauer – Speck Elementary School was placed on lock-down on Thursday after the Paso Robles Police Department received a report of one gunshot heard in the area of the school.
According to PRPD, at approximately 11:36 a.m. police department communications center received a report of one gunshot heard in the area of Bauer – Speck Elementary School in the 400 block of 17th Street.
Police say only one report of this nature was received at PRPD.
According to PRPD, school district staff initiated a ‘lock-down’ of the campus and secured all of the students prior to the arrival of officers.

California Highway Patrol Air Operations assets were in the area and provided aerial support from CHP Helicopter 70.
After an extensive area check on the ground and from the air, investigators say no evidence was discovered that indicated any firearms had been discharged near the campus.
The ‘lock-down’ of the campus was lifted at approximately 11:50 a.m.
Training for a ‘lock-down’ had been completed at this campus on Jan. 9. The effective response to this incident was due to this training and the partnership between the PRPD and the PRJUSD staff and security personnel.
