SANTA MARIA – Police arrested a 27-year-old man suspected of assaulting and robbing an unnamed individual just before sunset Sunday evening in the area of West Cypress.
Christian Rubalcava, a Santa Maria resident, was taken into custody and booked at Santa Barbara County Jail on felony charges of robbery after he allegedly beat and robbed an adult victim earlier in the day, according to police.
Officers were called to the 300 block of West Cypress just after 5:30 p.m. for a report of a beating and robbery, and they discovered that Rubalcava had allegedly approached the victim, engaged the individual in conversation and then began hitting them in the head, police said.
After robbing the victim of their money and some personal property, Rubalcava fled the area but was soon apprehended nearby by officers, who found the victim’s property in the suspect’s possession.
The victim’s name is being withheld by police, but officers said he sustained minor injuries during the alleged assault.
