Worker Accused of “Sexting” Students
MONTEREY—A contracted employee from Bon Appetit Management Company, who worked in the kitchen at Santa Catalina School, has been accused of providing alcohol to minors for sexual favors. The Monterey Police Department arrested 29-year-old Seaside resident Juan Pablo Mata for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
On Wednesday, at 3:30 p.m., the Santa Catalina School notified The Monterey Police Department that Mata was involved in multiple criminal acts with at least two minors at the school. The occurrences happened between November 2012 and January 2013.
“They called us and told us about the incidents,” Monterey Police Lieutenant Leslie Sonne said. “They did not tell us how they found out of the incidents, however this case is still under investigation.”
The next day, at 3:45 p.m., the police arrested Mata on two counts each of possession of obscene matter of a minor in a sexual act, selling liquor to a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, sending harmful material to a minor and lewd and lascivious acts with a minor.
It should be known that there was no physical contact between Mata and his accusers. He was accused of receiving lewd photos of the girls in exchange for the alcohol.
“The two students were both 14-years of age,” Lieutenant Sonne added. “At this time we do not know if there are any more minors involved.”
Mata was transported to Monterey County Jail and his bail has been set at $250,000. While being booked into the Monterey County Jail it was discovered that Mata was a previously deported alien and was placed on an immigration hold.
