Elementary School Janitor in Visalia Arrested for Lewd Acts
VISALIA – Police arrested a Visalia school janitor for inappropriately touching two students at the school.
Antonio Cordova, 30, was taken into custody on Tuesday on suspicion of lewd acts against two students at Oak Grove Elementary School in northwest Visalia. The alleged victims are both girls, ages 10 and 8, authorities said.
The investigation into Cordova began after school on Monday when two students – not the victims – told a teacher about “uncomfortable situations” with Cordova. The teacher then notified the school principal, according to authorities.
The school put Cordova on administrative leave and began conducting an internal investigation. After another student reported an inappropriate incident with Cordova from a month ago, the school called the police.
Interviews with two girls determined that there was inappropriate contact and Cordova was arrested, police said.
The Visalia Unified School District automated phone call notified parents that an employee had been placed on administrative leave.
Cordova has been a janitor with Oak Grove Elementary for four or five years. He is being held at the Tulare County Main Jail.
Police are worried that there may be other victims. The case is still under investigation and parents should talk to their children and call police if they suspect inappropriate contact occurred.
