X-Box may have lead to stabbing of roomate
On Feb 6, 36-year-old Gregory E. Blackcloud was reported to have committed the crime of assault with a deadly weapon, when the suspect attempted to stab another person under PC 667 and 1192.7. Blackcloud is also being charged with PC245 (a)(1) – with prior allegations of using a hand gun in the commission of a crime.
While at La Colina Park in the City of San Jose, Blackcloud removed a knife and showed it to the victim, and then slashed at the victim’s throat causing an 8-inch long laceration. The victim believed that the attack was premeditated. It is believed the two knew each other, but they were not close friends and rarely hung out. It is believed that Blackcloud had become angry when the brother had allowed someone else to live in the house. The victim was reported to have stated “You f*** with my family and I will f*** with yours.” Blackcloud, however, denied having any involvement in the assault and claimed he was playing the X-Box 360 all night.
The victim was suffering from a significant laceration to the left side of his neck. The laceration was “parallel direct” meaning left to right side of his neck. A 5-inch paring knife was shown to the victim to intimidate him before the assault. Witnesses also believed that the suspect maybe have gang ties, however there was no evidence to support this.
According to Dave Low, a Policy Analyst for Communications with the Office of Mayor Chuck Reed at the City of San Jose, “Mayor Reed also chairs the Mayor’s Gang Prevention Task Force, which brings together a broad coalition of stakeholders to address gang violence in our communities.”
With the reduction of over 500 officers in the last few years, the mayor’s office has “allocated an additional $2 million to the Task Force to fund gang intervention and prevention programs,” Low said.
Low said, “Unfortunately, a decade of budget deficits (caused primarily by skyrocketing retirement costs) has forced the City to decrease the number of officers on the force.”
