Man Arrested for Armed Robbery, Sexual Assault
San Luis Police have a man in custody for allegedly robbing and sexually assaulting a woman at a motel last Thursday.
According to SLOPD, officers responded to the San Luis Inn and Suites at 404 Santa Rosa regarding an armed robbery and sexual assault.
Police say when officers arrived on scene, they discovered a female had been sexually assaulted and robbed at gunpoint.
The victim told officers a male subject, later identified as Gregory Erwin, 49, of Santa Maria, agreed to meet her at her hotel room sometime after midnight.
The victim stated when Erwin arrived at the room, he sexually assaulted her, then removed cash from her purse and left the area in a white Ford Ranger pick-up truck.
The victim told officers that during the assault Erwin pointed a hand gun at her and threatened to kill her.
The victim provided officers with a description of Erwin and the gun he used during the assault and robbery. When Erwin left the room the victim told police she followed him to the parking lot and took down the license plate number of the Ford Ranger as he drove away.
With this information, police were able to track Erwin at his residence in the 200 block of West Park Street in Santa Maria where they found him attempting to leave in his vehicle.
SLOPD Investigators took Erwin into custody without incident. Investigators then obtained a search warrant for Erwin’s residence where evidence of the crime was recovered.
Erwin was booked at county jail and was charged with armed robbery, rape, terrorist threats, burglary, false imprisonment and assault with a deadly weapon.
