Woman arrested after abducting her son
A woman was arrested in Florida and brought to Santa Monica Friday to face charges of child abduction.
27-year-old Adriana Joriel Johns had lost custody of her 8-year-old son, Jounel Armon Taylor, last December, likely having to do with her arrest that month for burglary. Custody had been granted to Johns’ mother, who on March 5th agreed to let Johns keep the boy with her overnight, with the promise of taking him to school the following Wednesday morning. When the boy did not show up, and neither he nor Johns could be located, Santa Monica Police were alerted and issued an alert for the parental abduction.
Photos of the boy and Johns were released, and an investigation was launched. Santa Monica Police said that investigators were able to track Johns and her son to Clermont, Florida, a town in Lake County, just outside of Orlando. On March 22nd, the Lake County Sheriffs took Johns into custody at a home in Clermont, and recovered Jounel Taylor, who was in good health. He was reunited with his Grandmother two days later after she had flown to Florida.
Johns was returned to Santa Monica on April 5 after waiving extradition, where she was booked on charges of child abduction and the outstanding burglary warrant. Her bail was set at $150,000.
