Hollister Man Fights with Women
Seen kicking and Punching two Women
HOLLISTER—Hollister Police arrested 21-year-old Jerry Serrano after he was seen kicking and punching two women in the area of Ranchito Court on Friday night.
Officer Michael Paddy of the Hollister Police Department was the first to respond to the report of a man assaulting a woman. Upon his arrival, Officer Paddy heard screams and observed several people standing around a man kicking a female.
Another female tried to intervene but Serrano punched her. Officer Paddy approached the group and un-holstered his taser while ordering Serrano to stop. Serrano ignored his commands and continued to assault the female.
When Officer Paddy attempted to break up the fight, Serrano took a swing at him. In order to immobilize Serrano, Paddy used his taser. As he was placing Serrano in handcuffs, a large group tried to interfere.
Officer Paddy was able to arrest Serrano while keeping large group back until other officers arrived at the scene. Once the officers arrived, the large group that appeared to be gang members left the area.
“Officer Paddy is a veteran and has a great ‘Command Presence’ and is very capable of taking care of himself,” Hollister Interim Police Chief Carlos Reynoso said. “Obviously, he made them think twice about intervening.”
The two female victims were uncooperative and fled the area. Serrano continued to resist throughout the encounter with police. Serrano was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
“This did not appear to be a initiation beating,” Chief Reynoso added. “Usually, those consist male on male or female on female, never male on female.”
Serrano was booked into the San Benito County Jail on charges of battery, resisting, obstructing or delaying a peace officer and under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
