Woman from Yuba City Arrested on Suspicion of Arson
YUBA CITY – On Tuesday, Geneva Anne Knoefler, a 38-year-old Yuba City resident was arrested and booked into the Sutter County Jail with no bail on suspicion of arson. The arson was suspected at her family’s home. Knoefler has been prosected 19 times since 2007, mainly for minor drug and theft cases, said the Sutter County District Attorney’s (D.A.’s) Office.
A small, smoking wooden storage building behind 717 Louise Ave. caused firefighters to quickly respond at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Firefighters hastily put out the flames and spent nearly three hours cleaning up. Luckily, no one was injured. Neighbors, witnesses and even a resident of the home claimed that the fire had been set purposefully.
The fire emaciated the wooden storage building, burnt stacks of books, lawn-care equipment, a mattress and a fridge. The damage is about $10,000 worth, according to firefighters. Bystanders witnessed Knoefler in the building less than 60 minutes before it caught fire and claimed she left on a bicycle.
Witness James Cox, 30, identified a woman on a bike matching the description of Knoefler’s on Olive Ave. He described her as appearing scared and suspicious.
Knoefler’s arraignment is set for Thursday afternoon.
