AT&T Store Armed Robbery and Kidnapping
2 Suspects Caught, 2 Suspects at Large:
LA HABRA – Late Monday, April 22nd, officers responded to an armed robbery call to the AT&T store located on the 2000 block of West Imperial Highway.
Reports from victims stated that four suspects, described as black men in their mid twenties wearing dark colored sweatshirts, entered the store brandishing weapons and had “initially ordered store staff members and customers to the floor, but then decided to corral them all into a back room,” Cindy Knapp, spokeswoman for the La Habra Police Department said in a statement.
Knapp also added that “one of the suspects ordered the store manager, at gunpoint, to open the safe and load all of the iPhones and iPads he had into a bag.”
The robbers then demanded everyone’s wallets and purses, and the contents were emptied of any cash that was inside of them.
The suspects then left. No one was injured.
Information about the armed robbery was broadcast to surrounding agencies, Knapp said, and Sheriffs deputies later located all four suspects in a black Dodge Charger in Norwalk. Near the intersection of Dartmoor Avenue and Excelsior Drive, the car stopped, the four men jumped out of the vehicle and a foot chase ensued.
One suspect was halted and detained at gunpoint and another was located a short time later. Deputies closed off the area and searched to no avail for the other two suspects.
Deyonta Deshawn Sutton, 24 and Jaquan Donta Whitley, 23, each a San Bernardino resident, were arrested on suspicion of robbery and kidnapping and are being held at the Intake Release Center in Santa Ana without bail. They are to be arraigned in Central Jail Court on Wednesday.
It is unclear if the stolen property has been recovered.
Anyone with information regarding the identity and location of the two outstanding suspects is asked to call the La Habra Police Department at 562-905-9750. Anonymous tipsters can call 1-855-847-6227 or text a tip to 274637 starting with OCCS in the message field.
