Officers Shoot One Suspect, Another on the Loose
FRESNO – Police are on the lookout for a suspect involved in a gang shooting that led to an officer-involved shooting over the weekend.
Aaron Jones, 21, is wanted by the Fresno Police Department for allegedly shooting another gang member in the head two weeks ago. The other suspect in the gang shooting is 23-year-old Keith Breazell, who was released from the hospital on Monday after being shot by police officers. After his release, he was booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of assault with a weapon, gang enhancements, conspiracy and violating probation.
Officers had been looking for Breazell and Jones in connection to the April 18 shooting of a rival gang member at the Frank H. Ball Park in southwest Fresno.
Late Sunday afternoon, undercover officers spotted the vehicle used in the April 18 shooting at an apartment complex near Fresno State. They saw Breazell and a second man get into the car and start driving south on Cedar Avenue.
Officers followed the vehicle and saw as Breazell jumped a median in his car and crash into a car driving in the opposite direction. Police believe he knew he was being followed and was attempting to evade the officers.
The officers began approaching Breazell and one of the officers fired one round from his gun, which hit Breazell in the hand and the other man in the neck. It is unclear why the officer fired his gun. No shots have been fired at the officers.
Breazell and his passenger, 22-year-old Trayvon Smith, were taken to Community Regional Medical Center to be treated. Breazell was released and arrested. Smith is in stable condition and expected to survive.
Police are still trying to locate Aaron Jones in connection to the April 18 shooting. They say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
