Friday night gang fight results in 2 arrests
COSTA MESA – A fight that escalated between two groups of young men resulted in stabbings and the arrest of two suspects.
The Costa Mesa Police have reported that they responded to a report of a number of people fighting near the 1900 block of Anaheim Avenue. Investigators learned that four males, both adults and juveniles, were outside of a home near Anaheim and Yorkshire Street after midnight Friday, May 3rd. Four other men were walking along Anaheim, and one of them began arguing with the group at the house. A fist fight began between two of the men, and soon the others joined in.
Two men and a juvenile from the group at the house were stabbed in the altercation multiple times, reportedly by two of the walking group. That group all fled on foot. However, responding officers were able to capture 18-year-old Roman Nava on the street less than a block from the scene of the fight. 19-year-old Felipe L. Moreno was located in a nearby home, where he was also arrested. The other two in the party were not detained, as Nava and Moreno were the two suspected of the stabbings.
The three unidentified victims were treated for their wounds at Santa Ana’s Western Medical Center. The injuries were described as non-life threatening. Nava and Moreno, both of Costa Mesa, were booked into Orange County jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and promoting a criminal street gang. Bail has been set at $25,000 for each of them.
