DUI Accident Leaves One Driver Injured, The Other Under Arrest
VACAVILLE – When Vacaville Police arrived at the scene of the accident at approximately 5:24a.m. on May 12 along a then-deserted section of Leisure Town Road, they discovered De Sean Dennis, 22, of Vacaville, “wandering, dazed along the shoulder of the road,” according to Vacaville Police Officer Chad Hudson.
Dennis’s 1998 Camaro and the other driver’s 1997 Dodge Neon had just, minutes earlier, been involved in a serious crash. Apparently, Dennis’s Camaro had crossed Leisure Town Road’s center lane markers and, according to Officer Hudson, hit the Neon “head-on broadside” at a speed of approximately 50 mph.
The Neon driver was trapped behind the wheel. Vacaville firefighters quickly arrived on the scene just south of Purple Martin Drive and utilized the “Jaws of Life” to extricate the 54-year-old Davis resident. He was transported via REACH helicopter to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. Although the victim had “sustained fractures to his orbital bone around one eye, ribs, and femur,” the prognosis is he’ll be “just fine,” according to Officer Hudson.
On the other hand, De Sean Dennis faces a less rosy future. He had “displayed symptoms of intoxication” before and while he was transported by paramedics to Kaiser-Vacaville. He was arrested at the hospital for DUI. Later, he was booked for felony DUI and lodged in Solano County Jail.
