Suspect Arrested in Attempted Kidnapping of Young Girl
Detectives from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department have arrested a man in connection with the attempted abduction of a 7 year old girl in south Sacramento last weekend, according to an official press release.
Cedric Holland, 25, was reportedly taken into custody by the Major Crimes Bureau at his residence on May 16. Holland was charged with kidnapping and is being held on $1 million bail. A vehicle believed to have been used by Holland during the crime was reportedly found at his residence and was recovered for evidentiary purposes.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, on May 11, 2013, shortly at 1pm, the victim was walking with family members near 54th Street and 47th Avenue when the suspect drove up in a vehicle, grabbed the victim, and placed her in the trunk of his car before driving away.
A moment later, the victim was reportedly able to escape the vehicle when the trunk opened, jumping out of the car on to the ground. The suspect reportedly fled the scene, while the victim was assisted by a woman who witnessed her escape and reunited her with her family.
Detectives found evidence from the scene of where the girl was taken that reportedly linked Holland to the incident. Detectives also learned during the investigation that Holland had interacted with the victim at a business in the area earlier that morning. It is reportedly believed that Holland unsuccessfully attempted to lure the victim out of the business with him at that time.
Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, a booking photo of Holland is unavailable at this time. This image is from the Megan’s Law database.
