Man Arrested in Shooting Death
An Atascadero man was arrested on Saturday for his involvement to the shooting death of former Atascadero State Hospital employee, Colleen Barga-Milbury, 52, of Atascadero.
The victim was found shot to death in her residence in the 4300 block of Tranquilla Avenue on Wednesday.
According to Atascadero police, Mark Alan Andrews booked in San Luis Obispo County Jail for suspicion of murder. He was identified as a suspect with the help of an anonymous person.
Police then began surveillance on his home and detained him when he left.
Police conducted a search of his residence and found numerous handguns and rifles, including a rifle that is consistent with the murder weapon. They also found a live hand grenade, which the county sheriff’s office bomb task force disposed of quickly.
Police say Andrews lived in the same neighborhood as the victim, who lived with her 15-year-old son.
According to a new release from APD, the victim was shot at close range with an undisclosed caliber rifle near her front door.
Police do not have a motive and say the victim was not sexually assaulted.
Andrews is known to have mental issues, but it is unknown if this contributed to the murder.
