Suspect Admits Molesting Five-year olds
Santa Barbara – Carlos Israel Xitumul-Pineda had frequently volunteered to help his friends with their babysitting needs. But on May 21st, the mother of two 5-year old kids came back to her house just after noon and found the doors locked and the curtains drawn. After knocking on her own front door, the mother found Xitumul-Pineda and her two children in what Santa Barbara Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt Riley Harwood described to the media as “states of partial undress.”

The mother, clearly suspicious of the circumstances in her own home and with her own children, immediately questioned Xitumul-Pineda and, according to Harwood, “realized that the children had been molested.” Shortly thereafter, her husband—and the father of the two children—returned home, and with his wife confronted Xitumul-Pineda with threats to promptly call law enforcement. It was at that time, according to Harwood’s report to the media, that the erstwhile babysitter fled the premises.
Pursuant to the 911 Emergency call placed by the parents, SBPD Officers responded to their home and after briefly questioning them and the two small children, reported to Xitumul-Pineda’s nearby residence where he was promptly arrested. Follow-up investigation, as well as forensic medical examinations and child forensic interviews were conducted, the product of which was reported to Xitumul-Pineda who then admitted, according to Harwood, “to molesting the victims on multiple occasions over the course of five months.”
Xitumul-Pineda, 36, was transported to Santa Barbara County Jail and booked on charges of intercourse or sodomy with a child age 10 years or younger by a person 18 years of age or older, sodomy against a victim’s will by force, violence, duress, menace, or fear to a victim under 14 years of age, and committing a lewd act upon a child under 14 years of age. He is currently held on $250,000 bail.
