Grand Theft, Attempted Murder, Gang Enhancement oh my!
SALINAS — On Monday, June 17th shots rang out in the night in Salinas.
Officers responded to a call that an occupied residence in the 1100 block of Eagle Drive had been peppered with bullets, but fortunately no one had been injured.
Per investigation, two victims — both 22 — had been outside in the driveway and had observed a green Honda suspiciously cruising the area. The Honda then made a turn approaching the house and the victims ran inside, narrowly avoiding injury as three to five rounds went off in their direction.
Responding officers immediately began a search of the area, ultimately locating the sketch-mobile in a Buckhorn Drive apartment complex. Fortuitous circumstance favored the law that night, for two suspects — Jose Eduardo Garcia (18) and a juvenile (17) — were still sitting in the vehicle and were positively identified and arrested. The vehicle was discovered to have been reported stolen earlier.
Both Garcia and the juvenile, known gang members, were carted off to county jail and juvenile hall, respectively, and booked on charges of grand theft, attempted murder, and gang enhancements.
