Santa Maria Motel Fights Leads to Attempted Murder Arrest

SANTA MARIA – An afternoon brawl at a Budget Inn Motel landed one man involved in the altercation a cell in County Jail and the other a trip to the hospital.

Just after 3:30 p.m. of Tuesday afternoon, officers were called to the small motel in the 1100 block of North Broadway for a report of a fight and discovered a male victim suffering from multiple lacerations to his upper torso.

21 year-old David Gilbert Godinez of Santa Maria is believed to be the alleged attacker and was taken into custody at the scene. The unidentified victim was transported to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Godinez is being held at Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder.
