Pismo Officers Stabbed During Arrest
PISMO BEACH – A transient is facing two counts of attempted murder on a peace officer after allegedly knifing two police officers Tuesday afternoon as they attempted to arrest him.
Officers attempted to arrest Arthur Groneman, 36, at 1 p.m. on June 25 for reportedly trespassing at the Pismo Coast Shopping Center in the 500 block of Five Cities Drive when a fight ensued between the trio. During the struggle to arrest the man, Groneman allegedly pulled a knife and both responding officers sustained knife wounds to their hands, police said.
The officers were treated at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital for their injuries and released. Groneman suffered superficial wounds during the fight and was treated at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo before being booked at County Jail, police.
The incident started after officers were dispatched to the shopping center for reports of a trespassing in progress, allegedly being committed by Groneman and his dog.
An arriving officer located the man, established probable cause for an arrest and waited for back-up to arrive. When the second officer arrived at the scene, the first officer attempted to arrest Groneman, who allegedly resisted and the struggle ensued, which is when the knife was pulled on the officers, police said.
