Fugitive Caught after Eluding Authorities for Five Years
Fugitive Julio Karger has been arrested by National City Police Officers after being on the run for five years.
Along with Deputies with the U.S. Marshal, National City Officers were able to trace Karger in Chula Vista. He was arrested and is currently being held in the George Bailey Detention Facility.
Authorities believe Karger stole at least six identities of people from San Diego and Arizona. He worked as a customer service representative and allegedly purchased expensive items with credit cards under false names.
According to National City Police Detective Tom Di Zinno, Karger has been avoiding the detection of authorities since a warrant for his arrest was issued in Arizona for embezzlement and grand theft charges.
Karger’s bail has been set at $250,000 and he will be tried in San Diego on 15 charges including identity theft, burglary and forgery. There will also be an additional charge of child endangerment; Karger used his girlfriend’s children in order to steal clothes from a JC Penney.
Police are asking that those who have been the victim of theft from Karger contact Di Zinno at (619) 336-4473 or at tdizinno@nationalcityca.gov.
