Teenage Boys Taken into Custody For BB Gun Vandalism
Two Chula Vista teens are in custody after Chula Vista Officers linked them to a BB gun vandalism spree in the Southeastern part of the city.
The spree began earlier this week between Sunday and Tuesday. It is during that time that the teens allegedly damaged at least 42 cars in several neighborhoods. According to Lieutenant Lon Turner, the boys broke the windows of vehicles, resulting in thousands of dollars worth of damage.
Investigators were able to receive a description of the suspects from residents in the neighborhoods. In many of the neighborhoods, several witnesses described the suspects as three to five teenage boys driving an older white BMW.
Luckily, a security camera from one of the homes in the neighborhood was able to record the BMW and its’ license plate. Investigators ran the plates, which took them to a home in Chula Vista, where they found two 16 year-old teenage boys.
In the home of one of the boys, officers found a BB gun and a gallon-sized bag of BB gun pellets. A search of the second boy’s home produced four more BB guns.
The boys were taken into custody on Wednesday. They possibly face felony charges of vandalism.
Anyone whose vehicle was damaged in the spree but hasn’t reported the crime is urged to call the Chula Vista Police Department at (619) 691-5151.
