Sac Sheriff Arrests Suspect in Woman’s Death
SACRAMENTO – A man who initially contacted law enforcement officers to report the location of a woman’s body has now been arrested in connection to the death of that victim, according to an official press release by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.
Thomas Bennett, 38, was reportedly booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail the morning of July 2, 2013, on homicide charge and is being held without bail.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, on July 1, shortly before 9:30 p.m., officers reportedly received a call from the Sacramento Police Department (SPD) stating SPD officers in the Natomas area had been waved down by a man — later identified as Bennett — who told them he spotted a woman inside a storage facility on the 3600 block of Blackfoot Way in Antelope.
As it was not immediately clear if the woman in question was dead or alive, officers reportedly raced to the scene and on the way, notified the Sheriff’s Department. Officers arrived to the location and accessed a particular storage unit.
SPD officers had been found a woman in her twenties deceased inside the storage space. The victim’s cause of death could not be immediately be determined, and identity of the victim will be made by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Officer after next of kin has been notified.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding this case, the motive, and the relationship between the suspect and victim. Anyone with information pertinent to the case is asked to contact the Sheriff’ Homicide Bureau at 916-874-5115.
