Redding man Arrested for Assault, Attempted Homicide with Coffee pot
REDDING – Instead of waking up and enjoying his morning brew, Paul Buchanan, 61, spent his early morning hours evading death by a glass coffee pot– courtesy of his son. At approximately 5:15 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 12000 block of Lake Blvd. after Buchanan senior reported that his son, Kristopher, was under the influence of heroin and attempting to break-in.
Responding officers were alerted that Kristopher Buchanan was threatening to take his life, aiming to have deputies shoot at him–otherwise known as “suicide by cop.”
Buchanan senior equipped himself with a club upon discovering that his son had successfully entered the residence. Dispatchers reported that a skirmish ensued before the phone line went silent.
On location, deputies discovered the Buchanan son atop his father shouting, “I’m going to kill you,” while simultaneously striking him several times. Blood was omnipresent.
Deputies detained Kristopher Buchanan and he was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, burglary and terrorist threats. Officers determined that Paul Buchanan’s injuries were a result of the son breaking a large glass coffee pot over his father’s head, causing a deep wound– additionally, the son strangled the father and punched him several times in the face and head. The case is still undergoing investigation.
