West Turlock Drive-By Claims One Life, Shakes Another
TURLOCK — On the 7th of July at 3:05 PM, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report from an area near Simmons Road and Washington Road in an unincorporated area of Turlock, where a worker from the nearby watermelon field had just been gunned down.

The victim, who remains unidentified at this time, had been walking with the suspect’s wife to their cars after wrapping up their day’s work in the field. It was then that they heard a vehicle speeding toward them and turned to look, at which point the suspect’s wife recognized her husband — 42-year-old Eduardo Favian Maldonado — behind the wheel of his dark red Mercury.
Maldonado opened fire, hitting the victim and barely missing his wife, then fled the area and has not been seen since.
Once deputies had arrived, the victim was transported by Medi-Flight to Memorial Hospital in Modesto. He ultimately succumbed to his injuries the next morning at approximately 8 o’clock.

Currently, Eduardo Favian Maldonado remains at large and wanted on charges of murder, attempted murder, and corporal injury on a spouse. He was last seen driving a maroon or dark red 1999 four-door Mercury Mystique with California plates — number 5FLX194. It is speculated that he may be heading for Mexico, his home country.
His motives for the shooting are unknown as the case is still under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the case is urged to call Detective Cory Brown at (209) 567-4485.
