Stabbing In Historic Woodland Hotel; Suspect Arrested
The Woodland Hotel in the heart of Woodland’s quaint downtown is a restored Art Deco gem well-known as one of the best wedding reception venues in Yolo County.
Its genteel 1920s-era Spanish Colonial architectural magnificence and generally joyful atmosphere was sadly but only momentarily sullied last week.
On Wednesday, July 3, Woodland Police responded to reports of a suspected case of battery on the fourth floor. They contacted the victim, Michael Moore, 49, a hotel resident. They learned he had been in an altercation with another resident who inflicted a non-life-threatening knife wound on him.
According to Woodland Police Sgt. Jason Brooks, the alleged perpetrator was still in the building. They arrested the suspect, 72 year-old Angel Gonzalez-Ballesteros, and took him into custody without further incident. While Gonzalez-Bellesteros remains behind bars, his bail amount has yet to be determined.
The hotels’ wedding reception schedule continues uninterrupted.
