Fortuna Rodeo Attendee Stabbed in Neck
FORTUNA – On Friday, July 19th Fortuna folks gathered to enjoy the rodeo–when two became involved in a heated argument.
Just before 9 p.m., an altercation ensued and a male subject stabbed his peer in the neck. The victim was promptly transported to Redwood Memorial Hospital having sustained severe stabbing wounds.
Steven Stauffacher, 25, of Carlotta, reportedly stabbed the 49-year-old man, also of Carlotta with a knife, practically severing the carotid artery and trachea.
Fortuna Police Department Sgt. Charles Ellebrecht said that the men appear to be strangers and he does not know the cause of the argument.
Stauffacher was detained and booked into Humboldt County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
