Vehicle Burglar Arrested After Returning to Scene

Paso Robles police arrested a man for car burglary after the suspect returned to the scene of the crime.

According to PRPD, they responded to a report on Monday regarding a vehicle burglary which occurred within the last three hours in the parking lot of Cregor’s Market at 611 Spring Street.

The victim said she locked her vehicle with her purse inside while she went to work at Cregor’s.

She said when she returned later, her purse was missing and the vehicle looked as if it was forced into.

The victim reviewed surveillance video and the video caught the suspect’s face on camera.

The investigating officer used the images to try to identify the suspect.

On Tuesday, the suspect walked into Cregor’s around 1:30 p.m. and employees called the police.

Officers arrived and detained the suspect who  was positively identified as the perpetrator from the vehicle burglary. The suspect,  Joseph Oliver Godfrey , 29, of San Luis Obispo County was arrested without incident.

Godfrey was booked into the SLO County Jail for one count of vehicle burglary.
